That's nice and well, but then this will be used for the propaganda purpose of giving the illusion of accountability, when in fact both parties are controlled.

there needs to be a balance of power for checks and balances to work. when one party has too much dominance, it can and probably will just loot and rig the nation selfishly and ride roughshod over rule of law to get more and more of what they want. if government becomes too weak, it can't stand up to corporations. but if government becomes too big, the culture becomes militarized and civil liberties are a casualty of that.

there may be no value for "x" that solves the equation for every situation and social context.

But what is the point of balance of power when all the parties are paid by the same elites? Either big or small, it seems to be pretty much the same puppets.

theoretically, a puppet master would want to keep the pyramid below them fighting with each other, so they don't team up and crush them (and start the cycle all over again)
